Robert C. Newcomer is a business litigation and counseling attorney with The Lang Legal Group LLC in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Newcomer's business litigation experience includes representing individuals, small and medium businesses and large corporations in connection with business disputes and before state and federal courts and regulatory authorities in cases involving breach of contract (employment, non-compete/non-solicitation/non-disclosure, construction, lease agreements and other contracts), environmental liability, construction and design defects, product liability, mortgage and other fraud and negligence claims, common law trespass and nuisance, and receiverships.  Mr. Newcomer also seeks to help clients resolve their legal disputes through negotiated early settlements, mediation and arbitration.

Mr. Newcomer's business counseling experience includes business formation, acquisitions and governance; preparing, negotiating and reviewing contracts and structuring transactions to help clients identify legal risks and incorporate appropriate risk avoidance and mitigation strategies; identifying and incorporating sustainable business practices; and achieving other business and personal objectives.  Mr. Newcomer also advises clients on a broad range of environmental issues, including solid and hazardous waste liability, storm water management, sediment and erosion control and compliance with a variety of local, state and federal requirements.

Mr. Newcomer is also a LEED Accredited Professional, and he serves currently on Sustainable Atlanta's Green Building Taskforce.  He is an active member of the Georgia Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Urban Land Institute - Atlanta District Council where he serves on ULI's Technical Advisory Panel Committee and as Co-chair of its Sustainability Committee/Community Assistance Sub-committee.  Mr. Newcomer is a member of the Georgia Bar Association (General Practice & Trial; Environmental; and Real Property); Atlanta Bar Association (Litigation; Real Estate; and Environmental & Toxic Tort (past chair)); and American Bar Association.

Educational

Mr. Newcomer graduated cum laude from Duke University School of Law in 1996 and received his Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment in 1996. While at Duke Law School, Mr. Newcomer was the Executive Editor of the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum (1995-1996). Mr. Newcomer graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from the University of Missouri at St. Louis in 1992.

Community

Mr. Newcomer has worked with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation to provide pro bono legal services to those who cannot afford legal representation, and has provided pro bono legal services to The Georgia Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, Trust for Public Land and the City of Atlanta's BeltLine Partnership and BeltLine, Inc.  Mr. Newcomer also serves on the Board of Directors of E. E. Newcomer Enterprises, Inc., a second-generation family-owned business providing commercial and residential door products and related services and is a founding member and legal advisor to One Team at a Time, a Georgia non-profit corporation working with the Burundian community in Atlanta to provide soccer clothing and equipment to teams in Burundi.

Mr. Newcomer is married and has three children, and he is an avid ultra-distance and trail runner and cyclist.
