Please join us on the first Wednesday of each month for an informal gathering of like-minded professionals and individuals interested in connecting with others to share ideas on Green Business. At each meeting we have a short presentation by one of our members and the rest of the time is devoted to networking.

Rochelle Routman, Georgia Power Wednesday, February 3, 2010 - 11:45am - 1:30pm On February 3, 2010 Rochelle Routman Environmental Affairs Specialist at GA Power Spoke at Green Wednesdays. Below is a summary of her talk and a few pictures taken at the event. Georgia Power is committed to finding ways to make our business practices more sustainable. The company operates more than 1,000 megawatts (mw) of renewable energy (mostly hydro) and has existing contracts for 150 mw of renewable capacity, with plans to add more. Nuclear energy is also part of the solution. Georgia Power will be adding 2,000 mw of nuclear generation at Plant Vogtle. Georgia Power’s corporate parent, Southern Company, and Ted Turner are joining forces to expand the availability of solar energy. This complements the solar demonstration project on the roof of the Georgia Power corporate office. Georgia Power is also a leader in energy efficiency. The company won the 2009 Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award for lighting and appliances, and has distributed more than 330,000 Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs). The company’s Green Energy program is certified Green-e Energy by the Center for Resource Solutions. It is available to residential, commercial and industrial customers, as well as for special events. Georgia Power and its foundation have given more than $100 million to non-profits and community projects since 1986, and are currently matching employee donations to help earthquake victims in Haiti. In the past 15 years, Georgia Power’s community and economic development programs have helped create more than 112,000 jobs and $15 billion in capital investment within the state. For Georgia Power, sustainability is being “A Citizen Wherever We Serve” yesterday, today and tomorrow.
