The Benefits of Search Engine Optimization

If you haven't reviewed the information from MarketingSherpa, they provide valuable insight on direct email campaign optimization and lead generation.  Today, they posted the following chart:

There are two points that jump out when I evaluated this chart.  First, SEO optimization remains the best way to generate both high quality and high quantity leads.  There are a few standard criteria that you should measure when it comes to SEO optimization.  Strategic Keyword Phrases, Cumulative Search Engine Ranking, Backlinks and Monthly Visitors.


  • Strategic keyword phrases are the phrases that your expected customer base is searching for.
  • Cumulative Search Engine Ranking is the rank of your company on various search terms, i.e. you were in first position 70 times in October, the top 5 140 times, etc. 
  • Backlinks represent the number of links pointing to your website.  This number should trend upward and is an important metric for Google as they consider sites with more 'backlinks' authoritative.
  • Monthly Visitors measures the total visitors received, received through search engines and total received through referral traffic.  

 

Second, Google is the predominant source of all things paid search.  The second point shouldn't be a surprise as we all know that Google is "it" when it comes to consumer search.  If you have not experimented with Adwords and initiated a campaign, this should be first on your list.

Here's the key. The more active you are anywhere on the web the better off you will be.

 

I recommend setting up under Google Analytics the key word search function. Everytime something new goes up about me, Sandra or Southeast Green we get a google alert. It's not perfect. There is someone named Mary Beth Bond who has been arrested and so I continue to get alerts on that and the Southeast Green Bay real estate market seems to be pretty hot but we have been able to find people linking to us that we wouldn't have known about otherwise and that has allwoed to at least send those folks a thank and open a door. The key to SEO and Social Media if you can't afford to pay someone to do it full time is to do as much as you can. It helps with rankings in the end. Twitter even comes up in the Google results. Think about all those guys who tweet 100 times a day.
